Quilting during the time of Covid

On this Labor Day, I am reflecting on how much of a world changer the pandemic is. I personally have missed seeing my quilting buddies at guild meetings, have missed classes I would have registered for, have missed sewing with friends at quilt camp, have missed shopping the vendors at national shows, and have missed seeing amazing quilts in person.

I have had five speaking engagements/guild presentations or classes cancelled, so there is that loss as well.

The first “Midwestern Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show” was organized by my sister Dana and myself on Otsego Lake in northern Michigan in July. This actually was a DIY quilt show, we included cousins and close family friends who are quilters and prepared to hang our quilts outside and enjoy a day of social distanced quilt enjoyment at a beautiful lakeshore setting. Unfortunately, Mother Nature showed us she was boss, and the rain prevented us from hanging our quilts, but we did a show and tell outside on the porch and it was much enjoyed. Many thanks to my brother in law who had the closeline up and ready for us.

I did teach a workshop on collage, with a wine glass as a project. Dana and I provided the supplies, all five quilters seemed to enjoy the process. We also had a great potluck and wine tasting to keep with our theme. We plan to do this again summer of 2021, and would like for it to be an annual event.
